More about windows and the box fold

Children can create simple windows by cutting out along three sides of a square and creasing along the fourth. The window opens according to where the crease is - top, bottom, left side or right side. A child can easily create several windows, each having a different image to be revealed when the window is opened. These images can be letters so that a word is revealed when all the windows are opened. Or the windows might be in the form of present boxes and opening the window reveals the presents.
Children can also create several box folds on a single page. Depending on how deep the box fold is it is possible to position images in the fore ground, mid ground or background of the page. In the unit the box folds are made by cutting the paper and reversing the direction of the fold so that it 'pops out'. More able children will be able to produce box folds from separate pieces of paper and attach them to the page.
