Using a digital camera to produce images

You can introduce some modern technology into this unit if you have access to a digital camera. If the children wish to write a story about themselves, you can show them how to take photographs using a digital camera and download them to a computer for printing out. If the children want to change the size of the image you can show them how to do this using image processing software such as Photoshop™.
It is possible to change the size of the image keeping everything in proportion or to deliberately distort the image so that it becomes long and thin or short and fat depending on the effect the child wants. You can also flip pictures over horizontally which makes people look different, which could be useful in a story about twins. So it is possible for children in your class to produce a pop-up book which has them as the central characters in the story without destroying the family photograph album.
