Visiting the supermarket
Many large supermarkets contain a wide range of fresh fruit, including tropical fruits. It is worth visiting your local supermarket to see what is available and to find out the cost.
You can use this as an out-of-school class visit and involve the children in finding out what fruits are there and how much they cost. It will be important to liaise with the supermarket manager, so that staff can be warned in advance of the visit.
Some supermarkets are keen to involve local schools and provide information for the children to take away. They sometimes organise a tasting session. If you purchase fruit, then you can use the till receipt as a record of prices.
