Using ICT to improve the product
Children are sometimes disappointed by the final appearance of board games that they have designed especially when they compare them to those available in the shops. You can help the children in your class to use ICT to enhance the quality of the appearance of their designs in the following ways.
- Show them how to use simple word processing software to produce text labels (that can be stuck on counters or choice cards) and instructions.
- Show them how to use simple draw software to produce strips of border decoration that can be cut out and applied to the game board.
- Show them how to use a scanner to capture illustrations from magazines that can be used for character cards.
By combining the use of software on the computer with the use of a printer to produce high quality hard copy your children are starting to use CAD and CAM - computer assisted design and computer assisted manufacture.
