Immersion experience gives great fruit salads

Miss Hegarty, teacher at Our Lady's Liverpool
Miss Hegarty works at primary school in the North West of England. Here she describes how her class did this unit as a three-day immersion experience.

"On day 1 the children explored fruits to find out which were their favourites and practised cutting with Playdough 'fruit'.

"On the morning of day 2 we went shopping to the local supermarket to get the fruits they had chosen. In the afternoon we made our favourite fruit salads. I'd asked for parents to come in and help. The response was terrific - each table of children had a parent helper.

"On day 3 we were able to do writing and drawing about the fruit salads as part of our evaluation. What really impressed me was the way the children were able to talk about their fruit salads, using new vocabulary and listening carefully to each other." First fruit salad
Good enough to eat

Below you can look at the fruit salads that they made. They look good enough to eat - which of course they were!
