Toast - Carol Sayles, Science Engineering Ambassador

I run an after school Technology Club for Year 2 pupils at St Peter at Gowts CofE Primary School in Lincoln. One of our most popular activities has been to make toast.

The children are put into pairs. They interview their partner using a questionnaire to find out what sort of toast they would like. This helps to focus the children and ensure they only ask for available toppings. Once completed, they collect a piece of toast and prepare it for their partners. Chocolate spread and strawberry jam are very popular toppings. Plenty of knives and paper towels are also provided at this stage!

Whilst we are waiting for everyone to finish, the children draw pictures of how they could make toast to meet different requests very quickly.

After the toast has been eaten, the children assess whether it met their requirements and we discuss their machines.
