Using a digital camera to produce images for PowerPoint®

Taking photographs with a digital camera is not difficult but there are certain housekeeping rules that your children will need to follow if they are to be able to use the images they capture in their multi-media presentations. They will be successful if they have a clear picture of the steps involved. These are as follows:

For an image that you want to put in your presentations: child taking a picture with a digital camera

a) download it to the computer;
b) give it a name that makes sense;
c) put it in a folder labelled with your name;
d) put the folder in an agreed place on the school's hard disc;
e) decide which images will go onto which your presentation slides;
f) use the Insert (picture from file) command to down load the image into the slide;
g) if necessary adjust the size and position by 'clicking' on the image and using the arrow to pull on the small handles at the edges of the image;
h) decide which visual effect you want for the appearance of the image - dissolve, appear, fly in, camera etc.

Unless the child can find the image they want easily this can become a very frustrating business.
