Tools for cutting
The basic tool for cutting out card is a pair of scissors. It is important that these scissors are sharp enough to cut the materials that the children are using. Plastic 'safety' scissors are inappropriate.

For particularly delicate snipping you may wish to have a pair of sharp 'nail' scissors available, which a child may use under close supervision. If a child has drawn out a particularly tricky shape - such as the 'fur' on the head and the cheeks of the cat on the cover, then you may consider cutting out these difficult parts with a craft knife yourself, or helping the child do it under very close supervision.

The rule is that however you hold what you are cutting, there should be no part of the hand in front of the cutting edge.
You can use a paper punch to obtain small circular shapes for noses, large freckles, spots or pupils in eyes. You can use the standard office punch or specially designed punches that you hit with a hammer. If children use the latter they will need careful supervision.
