Personalising your roly polys
You can introduce some modern technology into this unit if you have access to a digital camera. You can show the pupils how to take photographs using a digital camera and download them to a computer for printing out.
Ask the children to work in pairs and to take a photograph of each other's faces. Show the children how to change the size of the image using image processing software such as Photoshop™ so that the printed image of the face is about the same size as the paper plates used for the roly polys.
Note that it is possible to distort the images by stretching or compressing. It is important that children do not use this activity as a means of being unkind to one another. The children can then carefully cut out the print outs of their faces and stick them to the wheels of their roly polys giving a very personalised end product.
