In Design & Technology (D&T) children are taught to design and make products of their own as well as investigating a variety of existing products. They should use a range of materials including paper, card, light modelling materials, simple technical components, textiles and food; and learn a range of skills and techniques.

The most important features of the Nuffield approach are:

  • once pupils have been taught the necessary knowledge and skills, they make their own design decisions as they are designing and making for a particular purpose;
  • pupils write their own design specification and use it to evaluate their developing ideas and their final outcomes.

You will find additional information and activities for you to do by clicking on the More? and Try this! cards at the bottom of each screen. If you have further questions not covered in the tutorial, Contact Us at the Curriculum Centre
