Multimedia authoring

Skills - what do I need and what have I already got?

  • Do I have any multimedia skills already?
  • Do I know how to save, retrieve and make back up copies of all my computer files?
  • Can I draw and paint on screen?
  • Can I record sounds to be used in my software?
  • Am I familiar with a multimedia authoring program?
  • Do I know how to use hypertext links, hotspots and navigation icons?

How do I learn new skills?

Most of the skills listed above can be learned and practised using the on-screen help facility or the user documentation for your particular software. The best way for most people to learn is to be shown how to do things by an experienced user. You could become part of a group of teachers and experts informing and supporting each other.

How will I know I am getting better?

Look back at your initial audit of your multimedia skills. It will be clear to see whether you have fewer areas of concern and whether you have more skills than you did. Your confidence will increase as you do more authoring.
